Sodium-ion Batteries Have Made Disruptive Progress Recently

On April 21, 2025, CATL released a number of disruptive battery technologies at the Science and Technology Day with the theme of "Boundary Awakening". Among them, the new sodium battery has an energy density of 175Wh/kg (the highest in the world), which is comparable to lithium iron phosphate batteries. It has passed extreme tests such as multi-axle box extrusion, needle puncture, high-speed drilling, and sawing, and has achieved no fire or explosion. It is a breakthrough technological advancement that is conducive to the promotion and utilization of sodium-ion batteries.
