Energy storage is becoming a key enabler for the expansion of electric vehicle charging networks, but key bottlenecks remain.

With the surge in the number of electric vehicles worldwide, charging infrastructure has become a bottleneck restricting the development of the industry. According to the "Global EV Outlook" report released by the International Energy Agency (IEA) in 2023, it is expected that there will be more than 50 million public charging stations in the world by 2030, which is a huge challenge for traditional power grids. As an auxiliary power support independent of the main grid, the energy storage system can provide support for charging stations at key nodes. Energy storage empowers the charging network, which is a huge business opportunity and can create multiple profit models. Therefore, the combination of energy storage and charging stations can not only stabilize the stability of the power grid, but also breed new business opportunities.

Although energy storage-assisted charging has broad prospects, there are still technical and commercial barriers and multiple challenges. For example, excessive cost pressure, contradiction between life and utilization rate, immature operation model, lack of standard system, etc. will hinder the integrated development of "energy storage + charging". However, with the support of policies in many countries around the world, the layout and construction of "energy storage + charging" is expected to usher in new development.
